SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
MYSTERIUM DOLORÓSA
Traditionally prayed on Tuesday and Friday
PRAYER FOR PROTECTION
We always commence our Rosary prayers with a prayer for protection of our Rosary prayer and intentions:
the Archangel St. Michael, the Miraculous Medal, and to St. Joseph, patron saint of the universal Church.
+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen
.
Prayer to Archangel S.t Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
Prayer Against the Persecutors of the Holy Mother Church
Raccolta #718
Graciously hear the prayers of Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord
that her enemies and all heresies may be brought to naught,
and that she may serve Thee in perfect security and freedom.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen
We ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin
Memorare, The Raccolta, ed. 1910, #197. Coeleste Palmetum 1866.
Let us pray:
REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy, help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother;
to thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions;
but in thy clemency hear and answer me.
Amen.
Miraculous Medal Prayer
Medal of Our Lady of Graces, The Raccolta, ed. 1910, #255
O MARIA sine labe concépta, ora pro nobis, qui ad te confúgimus.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Ô Marie,conçue sans péché, priez pour nous qui avons recours à vous!
(p.s. We have realized that there are loads of Miraculous prayers
and medals out there, which are incorrect.
We post two correct versions above, which also must be seen on your medal.)
The Immaculata prayer
by St. Maximilian Kolbe
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
O Immaculata, Queen of Heaven and earth,
I renew my consecration to you for this day and for always,
so that you might use me
for the coming of the Kingdom of Jesus in the whole world.
To this end I offer you
all my prayers, actions and sacrifices of this day.
Amen

Defend O most watchful guardian of the Holy family,
The chosen offspring of Jesus Christ.
Keep from us, O most loving Father,
all blight of error and corruption.
Aid us from on high, most valiant defender,
In this conflict with the powers of darkness,
and even as of old, You did rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life,
So now defend God's Holy Church
from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity.
Shield us ever under your patronage,
that, following your example and strengthened by your help,
we may live a holy life, die a happy death,
and attain everlasting bliss in Heaven.
Amen.
THE OFFERING PRAYER BEFORE ROSARY
(incl. Blessed Eucharist prayer from Our Lady of Fatima’s first apparition on 13th May 1917.)
Eternal Father, I offer you this Rosary,
by Marie Immaculate Heart in union with her Son,
Jesus Christ's precious blood,
as thanksgiving for all your good deeds,
according to Jesus' Sacred Heart intentions;
for all grace and blessing that will
make us close this beloved Heart
in life, in death, in time and eternity; for the sick; the dying;
for the conversion of sinners and for the souls in Purgatory;
for those who have asked for our prayers
and we are obliged to ask for and the family's intentions,
to You, God, may all lead to your greater honour
and glory and a glorious death for us all.
O most Holy Trinity, I adore You.
My God, my God,
I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament.
Amen

"They went to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples,
“Sit here while I pray.”
He took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be distressed and agitated. And he said to them,
“I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and keep awake.”
And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. He said,
“Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want.”
He came and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter,
“Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep awake one hour? Keep awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. And once more he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to say to him. He came a third time and said to them,
“Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Enough! The hour has come; the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Get up, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand.”

“As soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
Then the chief priests accused him of many things. Pilate asked him again, “Have you no answer? See how many charges they bring against you.” But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.
At the festival Pilate used to release a prisoner for them, anyone for whom they asked. Now a man called Barabbas was in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection. The crowd came and began to ask Pilate to do for them according to his custom. While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for today I have suffered a great deal because of a dream about him.”
The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” Then he answered them, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” For he realized that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed him over.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas for them instead. Pilate spoke to them again, “Then what do you wish me to do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”
They shouted back, “Crucify him!”
Pilate asked them, “Why, what evil has he done?”
But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!”

When Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”
Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, he released Barabbas; but Jesus, after he had scourged him, he delivered him over to be crucified.

And as they led him away, they lay hold on Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the country, they laid the cross on him, that he might bear it after Jesus.
So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called Calvary, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were wailing for him. But Jesus turned to them and said,
“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For the days are surely coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us’; and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him."

When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” They cast lots to divide his clothing. And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, “let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down from the cross now, so that we may see and believe.” There was also an inscription over him,
“This is the King of the Jews.”
The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
But the other rebuked him, saying,
“Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
He replied,
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”
Having said this, he breathed his last.

CONCLUDING PRAYERS AT THE CONNECTING MEDALLION
which concludes the Wreath for a fruitful perfection
Oratio ad Finem Rosarii Dicenda
The Rosary is a perfect wreath and we have now reached the connecting medallion where we follow the great Catholic tradition and learn from Cardinal Leo Burke and Bishop Athanasius Schneider of how they pray the Rosary in Latin.
We will now pray Salve Regina, which unites the intentions and prayers.
The Marian antiphon is sung at the end of the Rosary.

To thee do we cry, Poor banished children of Eve;
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
Thine eyes of mercy toward us;
And after this our exile,
Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Orémus:
Salve Regina,
Mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Hevae.
Ad te suspiramus,
gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Iesum,
benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, o pia,
o dulcis Virgo Maria.
V. Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genitrix.
R. Ut digni efficamur promissionibus Christi.

Let us Pray:
O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation.
Grant, we beseech Thee: that while meditating on these mysteries
of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
that we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise,
through Christ our Lord.
Amen

This is where Cardinal Leo Burke and Bishop Athanasius end their Rosary prayer in Latin.
You may finish with a Marian antiphon further below
or just by the above Sign of the Cross.
The Step-by-Step Rosary continues to follow the pearls path back to the Cross,
the sign of our salvation.
We also follow Pope Francis I call of Sept 30, 2018,
Pope Francis invited all to pray at the conclusion of the Rosary
with that most ancient invocation to the Holy Mother of God, “Sub Tuum Praesidium”
as well as the traditional prayer to St. Michael ascribed to Pope Leo the XIII."

- LET US UNITE AND PRAY AGAINST EVIL -
Detail: Deposition of Christ, Rembrandt. ca. 1633. The Art of Christianity Collection. Used with Permission.
Let us pray :
In the Name of Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul and all the Saints, we confidently undertake to repulse the attacks and deceits of the devil.
O Jesus, this is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, for the Holy Father and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
O Holy Mother of Priests, protect all priests from the dangers of their holy profession and lead the stray bishops and priests who have failed their sublime vocation, with your kind motherly hand, back to the good shepherd!
Amen
Let us pray for our Holy Father – Pope Francis I - and his eternal soul and pray for the Papal intentions (Raccolta):
May the Lord preserve him and give him life and make him to be blessed upon the earth and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
May Thy hand be upon Thine holy servant and upon Thy son whom Thou hast anoited.
Lord Jesus, shelter our Holy Father the Pope under the protection of Thy Sacred Heart.
Be Thou his light, his strength and his consolation.
Amen

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
